Android – device activation

Having a device with the Android operating system, we can easily activate the device in the Proget console. The method of carrying out the activation has been presented in the section Installation of applications and activation The selection of activation and functionality usages have been divided between the device and the container.

The Container (BYOD / COPE) allows you to separate private and business space. If you have already read the first steps, you can now learn how to use the Proget system in a more advanced way to suit your needs.

BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)
Employees can use their personal devices for work while allowing IT departments to manage only work and data applications via Proget.

COPE
The devices are company property. Employees can use company devices very freely. The IT department manages only work applications and data through the Proget system.

Of all the types of activation we have available:

On devices with Android system we can use the following activations:

• Android,
• Samsung Knox,
• Android Enterprise – Device Owner,
• Android Enterprise – Profile Owner.

Please take into account that the Samsung KNOX activation will only work on Samsung devices.

Devices

If we use the term Device, it means that the Proget application will be installed in the application area of ​​the device. Also all tasks, profiles, application installations, etc. will be performed within the device area. Activations that use the device space are:

Android

Android is the simplest type of activation that allows you to manage the device space from the Proget console. It has basic functionalities of the system, enabling remote management of mobile devices.

Samsung Knox

Samsung Knox is a type of activation that enables advanced device space management from the Proget console. Most of the functionalities of the Proget system are available with this activation. This type is only available for SAMSUNG devices. A Knox Workspace license is not required.

Android Enterprise – Device Owner

Android Enterprise – Device Owner – this type of activation must be performed at the very first configuration of the device (or after restoring the device to factory settings). The device space is inseparably connected with the Proget system. Deactivating the agent is equivalent to wiping all information on the device. This activation allows advanced management of device space from the Proget console. Most of the functionalities are available.

BYOD/COPE Container

If we use the term Container it means that the Proget application will create a new, separate workspace within the devices memory during installation. This container is effectively independant from the rest of the device memory space. All actions that are described to affect the Container will only be performed within this new workspace. Activation that create and use a Container is:

Android Enterprise – Profile Owner

Android Enterprise – Profile Owner is a type of activation in which all actions are performed in the area of ​​the device’s service space. The activation allows basic management of the devices workspace. It is available for all mobile devices with an Android system.

For devices with Android 10 or newer, there is addintional possibility for activating a device, which is on first use or is restored to factory settings. In in the initial view, click several times on the screen until the Configuration with QR code screen appears. Follow the instructions and connect to the Wi-Fi network. Wait until the QR scanner will be installed on the device.

Now, we can use second QR code, which we can find in user card after genereting Profile Owner activation. This QR code will ensure that the Proget application will be installed with activation data.

Other option is to user QR code in Integration tab – Android Enterprise. In this case, the QR code will deliver only the Proget application and a user will have to put activation data itself.

Android Enterprise – Device Owner activation

Android Enterprise – Device Owner can only be installed on new devices or on devices which have been reset to factory settings.

QR code

A device with Android 7.0 or higher is needed to use the QR code activation. In in the initial view, click several times on the screen until the Configuration with QR code screen appears. Follow the instructions and connect to the Wi-Fi network. Wait until the QR scanner will be installed on the device.

In the console, go to My card, click on the Generate activation button and select Android Enterprise - Device Owner.

Scan the second QR code.

Grant permissions and accept the terms and conditions. Wait until device has be activated.

Other option is to user QR code in Integration tab – Android Enterprise. In this case, the QR code will deliver only the Proget application and a user will have to put activation data itself.

Google account

You can also activate Android Enterprise: Device Owner by using a special Google account. To use this method, start the device and set up the Internet connection. You will now be asked to provide the name of a Google account. In the e-mail or telephone field, enter afw#progetmdm code and click Next.

The next screen will ask you to install the Proget application to manage the device. Click on Install and go through application installation process.

Next, the start screen of the Proget application will be displayed, on which you need to accept the EULA, assign the application rights, and enter the activation data (server name and activation password) or read the QR code.

To gain the necessary credentials, go to the My card, click the Generate activation button and select Android Enterprise - Device Owner.

After successfully generating the activation, the information that must be entered into the device will be displayed.

After entering the data, create a work profile and activate the device in the Proget system.

Activation with SAMSUNG KME (Knox Mobile Enrolment)

To use the KME program in the Proget system, it is necessary to create profile and add devices.

In order to configure the KME profile correctly, a Customer ID is needed, which must be generated by creating a profile on the KME website.

Device Owner profile

After logging into the SAMSUNG KNOX service, go to MDM Profiles tab, click the Create Profile button and then click on Device Owner.

In the first step, enter the profile name, select Proget in MDM’s list and set the address of MDM agent application.

Then set the data into the Custom JSON Data field (these data can be found in the KME settings in the Integration tab).

KME configuration

In the last stage of creating the profile you should add the Reseller ID. In the Reseller tab click the Register reseller button.

Fill the field with the Reseller ID which will be provided during the implementation of the Proget system.

After creating the KME profile, you can enter the Customer ID number into the Proget console and save the configuration.

From now on you have the possibility of introducing Samsung devices to the KME program via the Proget console.

Device adding

To do this, go to the Devices tab and then push Add devices button.

In new window select KME as integration type and choose activation type and enter IMEI or Serial number.

A new device will be added to the list, but for the registration to be completed, its status must change from Adding to Added.

At this point, the device you added has been registered in the Samsung KME program. If the device is started for the first time or the factory settings have been restored on it, the KME screen will be displayed when the device is connected to the internet.

After accepting the regulations of the KME program, the Proget mobile application will be downloaded and you will need to activate the MDM agent.

To do this, follow the instructions in the first steps omitting the stage of downloading the mobile application.
