Applications for iOS

Basic information about adding applications to the Proget system can be found in the First steps tab. Below is the detailed information about the application for devices with iOS.

Adding an application to the system

Adding an application to the system can be done within the Apps tab. On this tab, click the Add application button.

A window will appear where you can choose the way in which you want to add the application.
You can choose to add the application:

  • As a file
  • via iTunes

Adding an application as a file.

To add an application as a file, it is necessary to have the appropriate .apk file, which you have to upload to the system. If you add an apk file, click on the Select file button and select the file from your hard drive.

Fill out the Name and Description fields and click on the Save button. If the application has been correctly added, you will be able to find it in the table.

Adding an application from iTunes

To add an application from iTunes, select the iTunes option at the top of the Add Application Wizard window. Then in the search window enter the name (or part of it) of the application you are interested in and confirm the selection using the Search button.

After searching for the application you are interested in, click the Add to system button (you can also read the details of the application by clicking Go to the store).

If the application has been correctly added, you will be able to search it in the table.

Adding an application to a group or device

After adding the application to the system, you can assign it to users. You can do this by adding an application to a group – after this, on all devices assigned to users of this group, these apps will be able to be installed (or required). The second option is to assign an application directly to the user’s device – then it will be available only on this specific device.

Applications are added in the same way, both for the group and for the device. In the case of iOS, we add applications only to the device.

To make the application available for many users at the same time, go to the Groups tab, then click the Edit applications button.

However, to make the application available for a specific device, go to My tab and in the view of the selected device select the Applications tab, there click on Edit.

The Edit applications window will be displayed, at this point we choose Add.

In the displayed table you can search for the desired applications – select them by checking the checkbox in the first column.

The entire process can be repeated until the required configuration is obtained.

After selecting the applications, click the Save button.

You will be redirected back to the Edit applications window. The new application will be visible in the list of applications assigned to the devie. Here you can decide, whether or not the new app should be required or not.

Confirm your choice by clicking on Save. The new application will be sent to the device.

All added applications are listed in Proget Store, from where you can install them.

Application rules

The basic management of application rules has been presented in the first steps, if the informations contained therein is not known to you yet, we invite you to familiarize yourself with them.

Using rules, we can prohibit or allow users to use specific applications by placing them on a black or white list. The rules work on iOS only in supervised mode. Rules can not use a black and white list at the same time.

To add a rule go to the Profiles tab and select Application rules from the list of profile types. If you already have a profile created, you can select it and click the Edit button. If not, select the Add profile option.

Choose iOS (supervised mode).

Black list

To block applications, for devices with an assigned rules profile, in the blacklist window, click the Add button.

Then you have the option to enter the package identifier (e.g. com.microsoft.Office.Word). To do this, choose the Add application manually button.

If you do not know the identifier, you can search for the app by clicking the magnifying glass icon in the next column. In the application list, select one or many applications that you want to block, and click Add.

After adding all the applications that you want to block, click the Submit button in the profile configuration window to save it to the blacklist.

From that moment on it will not be possible to install the applications from the black list on devices with the profile to them (if they are not installed, then the possibility of installing them will be blocked).

White list

If you want applications to be always available to the user, you should add a whitelist to the blacklist.

After adding the application to the white list, click the Save button

A group of packages

The Proget console allows you to block a group of packages by using the asterisk symbol. For example, if you want to block all Microsoft applications on the device, enter com.microsoft. on the blacklist in the field of the package ID.

Application actions

For each application in the table on the Applications tab, we can perform various actions. Their amount depends, among other things, on the way of installing the application.
To perform an action on the application, click on the menu button in the Actions column and select a specific option from the drop-down list.

Actions for the application:

  • Delete application – if the application is not installed on any device and is not assigned to any group, it will be removed from the system.
  • Go to details in the store – takes the user to the application view on the store’s website appropriate for the given platform.
  • Devices – a table is displayed with devices and user names that have the application installed for which the action has been triggered.
  • Add to rule – fter selecting the type of activation and the space of application (white / black list), the application is added to the rule.
  • Configuration – we can add the configuration of the application and assign it to a given group of users.
  • Mark as an application from the store – if the application was installed on the device at the time of activation, the Device will be its source in the application table. Advanced configurations can be made only on applications with source marked as from the official store, therefore (after making sure that the application is in the store) using this option, we can mark it as an application downloaded from the store
  • Update the application – for applications added as a file, we can add a newer version of the application by uploading it to the console.

Application configuration

In the Proget system, we can customize the configuration of the application to suit your needs, for specific groups of users, from the level of the console.
To set up the configuration of the application, in this email example, go to the Applications tab, where we search for email applications for the IOS platform, e.g. Gmail. Then in the actions we choose Configurations.

Paste the appropriate configuration in the form of an XML file and confirm with the Save button.

Next, we need to add the application to the group in which the configuration is used.
